ചോലക്കുടുവന്[2] [3][4][5] ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ Indian Scimitar Babbler എന്നാണ് പേര്. (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Pomatorhinus horsfieldii) ഹിമാലയത്തിൽ കാണുന്നവ ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ കാണുന്നവ എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ടു വർഗ്ഗങ്ങളിൽ ഇവയെ കാണാം. തിങ്ങി നിറഞ്ഞ പച്ചപ്പുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ഇവയെ കണ്ടെത്തുക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ്.

വിവരണം[തിരുത്തുക]
നീണ്ടു വളഞ്ഞ മഞ്ഞ നിറത്തിലുള്ള കൊക്കുളാണ് ഇവയുടെ പ്രത്യേകത. കണ്ണിലൂടെ കടന്നു പോകുന്ന വീതിയുള്ള കടുത്ത വരയുണ്ട്. വെള്ള കഴുത്തും നെഞ്ചും കടുത്ത ചാരനിറം കലർന്ന തവിട്ടു നിറം മുകളിലും കടുത്ത ചാരനിറമോ കറുപ്പോ അടിവശത്തും. ചെറിയ വട്ടത്തിലുള്ള ചിറകുകളാണ്. ഇവയെ അപൂർവമായെ പറക്കുന്നതായി കാണുകയുള്ളു. വാലിന് നല്ല വീതിയുണ്ട്.[6]

കരിയിലകൾക്കിടയിൽ പ്രാണികളേയും പഴങ്ങളേയും തിരയാൻ ഈ കൊക്ക് സഹായിക്കും. [7][8]

രാജസ്ഥാനും ഒറീസയ്ക്കും തെക്കുഭാഗത്ത് ഇവയെ കാണാം. [6]
പ്രജനനം[തിരുത്തുക]
പ്രജനന കാലം ഡിസംബർ മുതൽ മെയ് വരെയാണ്. തറയിലൊ കുറ്റിക്കാടുകളിലൊ വലിയ കൂട് ഉണ്ടാക്കും. നല്ല വെളുത്ത 2-4 മുട്ടകൾ ഇടുന്നു. [9]
